Episode 39: "Reverse Covers," Vol. 1

Episode 38: "Apple Scruffs," Vol. 1: Badfinger!

We present the first episode in an occasional series we'll call "Apple Scruffs," in which we look at some of the artists the Beatles signed to their record label, Apple.  In this inaugural episode, we look at the music and career of the most successful group (besides the Beatles) signed to Apple, Badfinger.  Their story reads like a Shakespeare tragedy, but along the way features some great music and intimate Beatles connections.  If you've seen the final episode of "Breaking Bad," or listened to classic rock radio, you've heard plenty of Badfinger. 

Episode 37: 50th Anniversary Wrap-up!

In this episode we talk about some recent events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Beatles coming to America.  Dave gives a full report from the "It Was 50 Years Ago Today" academic conference in Altoona, PA, and Chris shares his thoughts about the Beatles tributes on the Grammy awards and in the special featuring covers by many current pop stars.  

Episode 36: George's "Dark Horse"

Happy 2014, everyone!  It's going to be a big Beatles year, to say the least.  In this episode, we dig into George's maddeningly inconsistent album from 1974, Dark Horse.  Lots of mixed reactions on this, but as always, we have a good time talking about the album and you'll hear Chris do some hilarious imitations of the dated instruments on some of the tracks.  Look forward to a full year of podcasts!

Episode 35: Review of "On Air: The Beatles At The BBC, Vol. 2"

To round out 2013 we offer our review of the "new" BBC release, "On Air."  As you'll hear, this gets a thumbs up from both Dave and Chris.  Lots of clips from the album give you an idea of what you'll find before you go out and buy it.  Thanks again for listening in 2013, and look forward to more in 2014.

Episode 34: Macca's "Off The Ground" 20 Years Later

Our final anniversary review of 2013 is of Paul McCartney's 1993 album Off The Ground.  We cover the personnel, tracks (including bonus tracks), and all the history behind this album, somewhat forgotten today in the McCartney catalog.  You'll hear a few hidden gems, and a whole lot of weird lyrics in these songs.
